DESCRIPTION
Kokusai Dori (国際通り) is the main tourist and shopping street in Naha City, Okinawa. The name “Kokusai Dori” means “International Street,” and the area became famous after World War II as a symbol of Okinawa’s rapid recovery and development.
The street stretches approximately 1.6 kilometers through central Naha and is filled with shops, restaurants, cafés, bars, souvenir stores, and entertainment facilities. It is one of the busiest and most vibrant areas in Okinawa, attracting both tourists and locals throughout the day and night.
Visitors can find a wide variety of Okinawan souvenirs and local specialties such as Okinawan snacks, awamori liquor, shisa statues, tropical sweets, and Ryukyu-style crafts. Kokusai Dori is also one of the best places to try Okinawan cuisine, including Okinawa soba, taco rice, goya champuru, and local seafood dishes.
Along the street and nearby alleys, visitors can also enjoy local izakayas, live Okinawan music performances, and small traditional markets such as Makishi Public Market.
On Sundays, part of Kokusai Dori is sometimes closed to vehicles during special “Transit Mall” events, creating a pedestrian-friendly atmosphere with street performances and cultural activities.
Because of its lively atmosphere, easy access, shopping, food, and entertainment, Kokusai Dori has become one of the most recommended things to do in Okinawa.
