SUMMARY
Shinsekai, which literally means “New World,” is one of Osaka’s most unique and nostalgic neighborhoods. Known for its retro atmosphere, vibrant streets, and local food culture, Shinsekai is home to famous attractions such as Tsutenkaku Tower, Kushikatsu restaurants, and Tennoji Zoo. With its colorful signs, old-fashioned charm, and lively local character, Shinsekai offers visitors a glimpse into Osaka’s traditional downtown culture and remains one of the city's most distinctive sightseeing areas.

DESCRIPTION

Shinsekai is a historic entertainment district located in southern Osaka. Developed in 1912, the area was originally inspired by Paris and New York, symbolizing a vision of a modern "new world" for Japan at the time.

The most famous landmark in Shinsekai is Tsutenkaku Tower, one of Osaka’s iconic symbols. The original tower was built in 1912 and was inspired by the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The current tower stands approximately 103 meters tall and features observation decks that offer panoramic views of Osaka.

Shinsekai is also widely regarded as the best place in Osaka to enjoy Kushikatsu, a beloved local specialty consisting of deep-fried skewers of meat, seafood, and vegetables. The district is filled with traditional Kushikatsu restaurants, many of which have been serving customers for decades.

Nearby, visitors can explore Tennoji Zoo, which opened in 1915 and is the third-oldest zoo in Japan. The zoo features a variety of animals from around the world and remains a popular attraction for families and children.

After sightseeing, many visitors choose to relax at Spa World, one of Osaka’s largest hot spring and wellness complexes. The facility features European-themed and Asian-themed bathing areas, saunas, relaxation lounges, and various wellness facilities.

With its combination of local food, retro charm, historic attractions, and unique atmosphere, Shinsekai offers a side of Osaka that is very different from the city's modern shopping districts.
